In 1918, in Makkum, in the North of Holland, the Amels family laid a legacy that has since evolved over the years.
From building wooden fishing boats, steel tugboats, and coasters to becoming one of the first movers in building superyachts as we know them today.
The first Amels superyacht, the KATALINA, made an immediate impact. And as she sails the oceans decades on, she represents the birth of the steadily-growing Amels fleet which is recognised as the pinnacle of luxury superyachts.
When Kommer Damen, second-generation owner of Damen Shipyards, acquired Amels in 1991, the brand became part of the Damen family’s own shipbuilding group. Adding yet another century of his own family’s unique Dutch shipbuilding experience and expertise whilst retaining the Amels brand and preserving its roots.

Since their relocation in 2003, all Amels yachts are built in Vlissingen in the south-west of the Netherlands, a centre of shipbuilding excellence for over 700 years. Their location is the largest superyacht facility in the Netherlands and home to over 1,500 craftsmen and women.
Today Rose Damen, of the third-generation of her shipbuilding family stands firmly at the helm of Damen Yachting.

HERE COMES THE SUN is no stranger to making a big impression. She has been standing tall as head of the Amels fleet since her original delivery in January 2017. So when this newly refitted, now 89-metre Amels Full Custom rolled out of the shed unveiling her stunning new colour scheme and extended length, she cemented an even bigger, bolder and better legacy. This is a yacht to enjoy the best of ocean life on a grand and timeless scale.
